Your Winter Selections
A Classic Columbia Crest Wine and a New Offering
|
|
As the 2011 harvest comes to a close, Columbia Crest Estate Vineyard Manager Juan Uribe Jr. can check off another successful harvest — he has 27 vintages under his belt. Uribe is responsible for managing the vineyard operations at the winery's estate vineyard, which consists of approximately 2,500 acres. Some of Columbia Crest's most celebrated wines, such as 2005 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, the H3 wines, and the Reserve Chardonnay are crafted from fruit grown in our Estate vineyard.
Uribe started his career at Columbia Crest in 1984 as a laborer, just two years after the winery's first harvest. “A relative got me interested in the field and I just took it from there,” says Uribe. “Over the years I continued to explore all areas of the labor and agricultural side of the wine industry.”
Uribe is experienced in all facets of vineyard operations; he soon went from laborer to irrigation foreman to irrigation supervisor. He continued to excel in the vineyard operations and was named Senior Supervisor in 1996, then Assistant Manager then Vineyard Production Manager. In 2008 Uribe was promoted to the Columbia Crest Estate vineyard manager.
“I have been in this industry for more than 25 years, and one of the things that keeps me coming back is the ongoing learning process,” says Juan. “I have the privilege to work with many experts in the field, and I enjoy listening to their ideas on how to improve the vineyards, as well as share what I have learned over the years.”
In honor of Uribe’s 25 plus years at Columbia Crest we have a classic Columbia Crest wine selection, the 2001 Walter Clore Private Reserve Red Wine . The first vintage of Reserve Red wine was produced in 1988, just four years after Uribe started at the winery. And throughout the years the Reserve Red Wine, like Uribe, has been one of the winery's most prized assets.
Balancing tradition with innovation has always been Columbia Crest's motto, and your second club selection, the 2010 Reserve White Wine, is an example of our innovation in winemaking, and desire to offer our wine club members a unique and exclusive wine. Only 200 cases were produced of this Roussanne, Viognier, Marsanne blend so it is sure to go fast.

club wine acclaim
Columbia Crest 2001 Walter Clore Red Wine, Columbia Valley
92 Points — Wine Spectator, September 2004
“Firm, with a lovely bead of ripe currant, blueberry and sweet spice flavor coursing though a long, lively finish. Tannins are nicely polished and the fruit prevails against oaky character on the finish.”
90 Points — Wine Enthusiast, April 2005
“This sophisticated blend offers complex flavors of mixed red fruits, nicely textured and layered. You can pick out distinct pomegranate, cranberry, red berry and cherry flavors; there's nothing monolithic about it. There are also some hints of olive and herb, and substantial tannins.”

other recent acclaim
Columbia Crest 2009 H3 Cabernet Sauvignon, Horse Heaven Hills
90 Points & “Smart Buy” — Wine Spectator, October 2011
“Focused, refined and appealing for its open-weave texture around a generous core of plum and currant fruit, finishing with hints of coffee and dark chocolate.”

Columbia Crest 2008 Grand Estates Merlot, Columbia Valley
89 points & “Best Value” — Wine Spectator, November 2011
“On the lighter side, this graceful red shows pretty cherry and sage flavors that linger against velvety tannins. Shows deft balance and a sense of harmony. Drink now through 2013.”
