“Outstanding” - Wine Press Northwest - December 31, 2007 2006 Grand Estates Sauvignon Blanc Columbia Valley
No wonder celebrity chef Bobby Flay signed up with these folks. Lead winemaker Keith Kenison created an amazing array of entry points, starting with enticing aromas of Meyer lemon, lime, grapefruit, marshmallow and pear. The very pleasant mouth feel features more of that citrus and orchard fruit, focusing in fresh Bartlett pears. It’s a marvelous melding of flavors, complexity, balance and finish.

Grand Estates is the mid-tier label for the Columbia Crest brand, and is often discounted significantly from the list price. This is a waxy, rather soft rendition of Sauvignon Blanc, and the pretty fruit flavors mix grapefruit, citrus and pineapple. There is very little suggestion of Sauvignon Blanc's herbal or grassy side; the grapes seem to have been ripened past that point, though not all the way to California-style, tropical fruit flavors. All in all this is a well-crafted, smooth and flavorful wine, with a portion barrel-aged for extra complexity.
