90 points - Wine Enthusiast - May 01, 2009 2005 Walter Clore Private Reserve Red Blend Columbia Valley

The finest Walter Clore since the 2001, this Bordeaux-style blend shows considerable muscle and depth. Built upon firm, cherry-berry fruit, it adds nuances of baking spice, pepper, vanilla wafer and a pleasing earthiness to the tannins. It represents the ultimate expression of Columbia Crest, and the 2005 marks a welcome return to excellence.

88 points - Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine - April 01, 2009 2005 Walter Clore Reserve Red Columbia Valley

If not among the more powerful and dramatic of this month's contenders, this nicely composed wine delivers a good measure of defined, cassis and plum fruitiness with deftly placed oak lending a bit of richness. Polish rather than potency is its first virtue, and its modest tannins prescribe no more than mid-term aging.

4 stars - Restaurant Wine - March 27, 2009 2005 Reserve Walter Clore Red Blend Columbia Valley

Fleshy and complex in style, this is a fairly powerful blend, with evident oakiness and a long, persistent finish. It tastes of blackberry, toast, roasted nut, vanilla and cedar.

92 points - Wine Spectator - November 12, 2008 2005 Reserve Walter Clore Red Blend Columbia Valley

Ripe and polished, with gorgeous chocolate-tinged black currant, black raspberry and coffee notes swirling through the long, vivid finish. Tempting now, but should develop more with cellaring.

“Recommended” - Northwest Palate - August 01, 2008 2004 Reserve Walter Clore Red Blend Columbia Valley

A youthful nose of wood, earth and black fruits is restrained, though it blossoms with time in the glass. On the palate there is a rich but tight mélange of blackberry, plum, cocoa, mint, cinnamon and toast. The fruit flavors emerge slowly while the spicy nature of the wine is initially forward. Ample youthful tannins inhibit the fruit a bit. This is a classically young and taut big red blend with all the elements to benefit greatly from 1-3 years of aging.
