“Highly Recommended & Excellent Value” - Northwest Palate - June 01, 2007 2004 Grand Estates Merlot Columbia Valley

Forward aromas of smoky plum and blackberry fruits are at once punchy and elegant, promising a wine of depth. And indeed, it is a wine of depth. A wealth of sweet plum and blackberry fruit form the center of the wine, but as it spreads across the palate additional notes of smoke, chocolate, basil and toast appear. Oak also appears, but as a sidebar and never the main feature. Ample acidity keeps things fresh, while polished tannins add backbone. The long, broad finish complements the substantial mid-palate length. Cellar for a further three years to gain more layers of character.

90 points - Wine Spectator - May 31, 2007 2004 Grand Estates Merlot Columbia Valley

Bursting with blueberry and currant fruit, this zips across the palate with a racy texture and refined tannins. Lingers enticingly with a hint of moch! on the clear-headed finish. ^

“Best Buy and Excellent Review” - Wine Press Northwest - April 01, 2007 2003 Grand Estates Merlot Columbia Valley

Fruit off the Horse Heaven Hills and Wahluke Slope forms the backbone of this widely available wine, that includes Cab (1%) and Cab Franc (1%). Strawberries, sarsaparilla, vanilla extract and black truffle notes lead into flavors of red currants, blueberries and pie cherry acidity with mid-palate of spice and a sweet finish of semi-sweet chocolate.

86 points - “Good Value. Highly Recommended” - California Grapevine - October 31, 2006 2003 Grand Estates Merlot Columbia Valley

Medium ruby; pleasant, restrained, herbal, toasty, tarrish, cherry fruit aroma; medium-full body; herbal, tarrish, cedary, rich blackberry and black cherry fruit flavors; medium;full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Very drinkable now.

90 points - “Best Value” - Wine Spectator - September 30, 2006 2003 Grand Estates Merlot Columbia Valley

Supple, ripe and seductive, a plush wine with gorgeous plum, blackberry, currant and hints of exotic spice swirling through the round, generous finish. Drink now through 2010.
