4 stars - Restaurant Wine - March 27, 2009 2006 Grand Estates Merlot Columbia Valley
The Merlot is full bodied, moderately intense in flavor and lightly oaked; a wine with ripe fruit, toast and spicy oak aromas/flavors. An excellent wine at the price.
85 points - Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine - March 01, 2009 2006 Grand Estates Merlot Columbia Valley
Only three dollars pricier than its entry level mate below, this one is by far the better wine and the better value. It is clean, smells of the red cherry fruit of Merlot, hints at a bit of vanillin richness and if a touch on the soft side, it has enough energy to be enjoyable.
88 points - “Best Buy” - Wine Enthusiast - December 01, 2008 2005 Grand Estates Merlot Columbia Valley
The Grand Estates Merlot is a sure-fire Best Buy, as especially in a ripe, sweet vintage such as 2005. The color is pure and deep, and the soft midpalate offers ripe cherry and prune flavors. Streaks of coffee lead into somewhat earthy tannins that add structure to the finish.
“Recommended & Good Value” - Northwest Palate - August 01, 2008 2005 Grand Estates Merlot Columbia Valley
Weighty aromas of spicy plum fruit and savory smoke are welcoming. Luscious on the tongue, soft flavors of blackberry and cherry are accented by vanilla, cocoa and smoke. A creamily crafted wine, the supple texture belies the power of the fruit. Ample but soft tannins help give definition. A forward wine to pair with a juicy rib eye steak.

Lithe and appealing for its graceful balance and creamy cherry and spice flavors, which linger gently on the enticing finish.
