91 points - Wine News - March 01, 2005 2001 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley
Deep purple hue. Well-knit aromas of cherry, cassis, cola and chocolate. Soft, approachable flavors of sweet cherry, mint, vanillin oak and black walnut. Spicy finish loaded with plum.
93 points - “Top 100 Wine of 2004” - Wine Spectator - December 31, 2004 2001 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley
Columbia Crest is often one of the Best Values; its Reserve wines offer even more bang for your buck. Winemaker Ray Einberger selected fruit from the Wahluke Slope and Horse Heaven Hills vineyards. The grapes were harvested by hand. For fermentation, Einberger kept 20 percent whole berries. Malolactic fermentation in new French and American barrels adds to the rich texture.
90 points - Wine & Spirits - December 01, 2004 2001 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley
Big, plush and generous, this wine's rich flavors are hard to resist. Oak aromas of chocolate cake and spice give way to forward blackberry flavors, pushed to full ripeness. It's firm on the finish, a pleasure with braised beef.
93 points - “Highly Recommended” - Wine Spectator - September 30, 2004 2001 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley
This is the fourth consecutive outstanding rating and second straight at 93 for this selection of the best lots of Cabernet from Washington’s biggest winery. The ripe, polished, opulent style teems with spicy black cherry, raspberry, black olive, bay leaf and sweet spice flavors, which echo against the superfine tannins on the long, generous finish.
90 points - “Very Highly Recommended” - California Grapevine - December 31, 2003 2000 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley
Medium to medium-dark ruby; attractive, forward, plummy, spicy, cassis and sweet black cherry fruit aroma with notes of dill, anise, and chocolate; medium-full to full body; forward, rich, supple, sweet black cherry fruit flavors with overtones of creamy oak; medium-full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Very appealing now with its forward, easy to drink, rich fruit.
