Quarterly Review of Wines - July 01, 2010 2007 Grand Estates Merlot
Value wine you can’t afford to miss. One of the virtues of volume wineries is that they have the power to keep prices sane. In the hands of a smaller winery, this wine would be perhaps twice as much. Berry and spice aromas, along with rich blackberry flavors, assisted with a hint of oak, spice, and earthiness. It finishes with mellowness, ripeness, and intensity.

Light on its feet, with a polished feel to the dark berry, prune, star anise and roasted meat flavors, fading slightly on the finish.

89 points - “Best Buy” - Wine Enthusiast - December 31, 2009 2006 Grand Estates Merlot Columbia Valley
The Grand Estates Merlot has to be considered one of the best—if not the best—budget Merlots in the world. The color is pure and deep, there is a strong tannic spine, and the flavors of cassis and coffee, boysenberry and chocolate could be coming from a much more expensive bottle.

The 2006 Merlot was aged in 25% new French and American oak for 14-16 months. Dark ruby-colored, it delivers a pleasant nose of cedar, vanilla, clove, cassis, and cherry. Supple, ripe, and easy-going on the palate, this medium-bodied effort has surprising persistence and length for its bargain price. Drink it over the next 3 years.
