Pinot Grigio has yet to find a distinguishing style in Washington State. This is borderline generic, almost beery, a plain, pleasant, fairly neutral white wine with a mix of white peaches and green apples.

On the smallish side, but not without a nice glimpse of quietly peachy fruit, this slightly sweet bottling is light on its feet and decently balanced from front to back. It delivers a rounded, unchallenging yet spry personality for apertif use and should work comfortably with lighter first courses.

Other wineries have changed the name of their wine from Pinot Gris to Pinot Grigio and seen sales skyrocket. This wine – a fresh addition to the Grand Estates program – merits similar success. Starfruit, pineapple, citrus, gooseberry, facial powder and peach fuzz form some of the aromatics. Citrus, orchard fruit and cane sugar flavors are hit with a good dose of acidity making for a clean, crisp and delicious drink.

Light, crisp and bracing, this classy effort sets the standard for affordable Columbia Crest Pinot Grigio. The vivid nature of Washington fruit comes through in the fresh flavors of pear and apple, juicy and lucid. Hingts of citrus blossom can be found in the nose, and the restrained, 12.5% alcohol gives this elegant wine an almost European polish. Vibrant acidity is the key to the Washington style, bright and juicy and inviting. ^
