92 points - Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine - March 01, 2010 2006 Walter Clore Private Reserve Columbia Valley
This very well crafted wine serves as a welcome reminder that depth and density are not antithetical to refinement and grace. From its rich, nicely layered aromas of cherries, cocoa and sweet oak to its impressively extracted flavors, it exhibits a good sense of proportion and never lets ripeness trump its well-defined fruit. It progresses effortlessly to a long, lightly tannic finish and is bound to age quite comfortably.

Bright and crisp, with a red pepper edge to the cherry and herb flavors, lingering easily. Long on grace and refinement. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
88 points - Wine Enthusiast - December 31, 2009 2006 Walter Clore Private Reserve Red Blend Columbia Valley
Solid and straightforward, it shows ripe cherry fruit, light hints of dried leaf and cocoa, and a sturdy, though onedimensional, core.
90 points - Wine Advocate - October 01, 2009 2005 Reserve Walter Clore Red Blend Columbia Valley
Columbia Crest’s flagship is the 2005 Walter Clore Private Reserve, a blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, and 7% Cabernet Franc. It was aged for 26 months in new French oak. Purple-colored it exhibits an alluring bouquet of toast, coconut, chocolate, graphite, spice box, black currant, and black cherry. Medium to full-bodied, savory, and structured, this well-balanced effort will improve for another 3-5 years in the bottle and offer prime drinking from 2013 to 2025.

Vibrant crimson hue. Complex scents of black cherry, mocha and brown sugar with hints of vanilla and toasted oak. Ripe flavors of warm raspberry pie and wild cherry. Ultra-plush tannins and layers of raspberry, blueberry and baker's chocolate in the endless close.
